It is with great regret that we have to bring you the sad news, and must report the passing of our dear Brother and friend:
our beloved Grand Master Luis Jose MARTINEZ.
On Saturday Januari 20th, 2024, at the age of 60, unexpectedly he passed away at the hospital in Orlando, Florida, USA.
He leaves behind his wife Sor. Carmen Rosalia GARAY and his son & daughter.
Luis was elected early 2022 to lead the International Order and in a short time performed a tremendous amount of work.
He reunited Freemasonry with the Temple and sought to unify the devided Templar landscape around the world.
His passing is a great loss to the Temple Community all over the world.
Luis Jose MARTINEZ, in his childhood was living in the USA and GERMANY. Although he lived mostly in PUERTO RICO. Growing up he was involved in civic oriented organizations such as LEO (Youth of Lions International), Boy Scouts of America and later the CIVIC AIR PATROL. He attended Youngstown State University in Youngstown, OHIO graduating with a BSAS in Criminal Justice and Spanish. After college he worked at the Affirmative Action Office in charge of a scholarship program sponsored by the US Government.
Back in Puerto Rico, he taught both Spanish and English in several Catholic schools, previous to serving in the PR Corrections Administration as a Probation Officer and Parole Officer.
While working in the Correction Administration he became Vice President of the Union of Civilian Employees in the Corrections Administration.
In Florida he worked as a Child Protection Investigator for the Government and became later the CEO of his own Private Investigation company :
“AGENCY for SECURITY and INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES”, Inc.
For many years he was serving in the O.S.M.T.J. – Order. After being Knighted he held various positions within O.S.M.T.J.
He became the Leader of the Templar Academy and became, Officer, Grand Officer, Grand Cross Officer and later the Grand Prior of Puerto Rico & Florida USA.
Due to disagreements within the group, he and about twenty Grand Priors (worldwide) split off and at the end of 2021 / early 2022, they had official and independent elections organized by the Portuguese branch of the Knights Templar : OSMTU in order to ensure global legitimacy.
Brother Luis J. MARTINEZ was elected as the new official GRAND MASTER to serve and lead OSMTJ Worldwide.

H.E. , Mgr. / Prof. Dr. Nicolas HAIMOVICI HASTIER was the director to directs The Order to OSMTJ INTERNATIONAL. From 1994 to the beginning of 2020, he held the highest international office as REGENT. As the “PRESIDENT OF THE REGENCY COUNCIL“, He was the Leader of the “INTERNATIONAL BOARD”
He was also the absolute world leader of the International Masonic Alliance and is the highest “MASONIC TEMPLAR“: “GUARDIAN OF THE TEMPLAR FAITH” and holds the 33rd Degree “SOVEREIGN GRAND INSPECTOR GENERAL OF THE TEMPLE – °33“.
Until the beginning of 1994, Nicolas HASTIER served as the GRAND CHANCELLOR, GRAND MARSHAL & the GRAND COMMANDER of The Order until he was appointed in that year by GRAND MASTER Georges LAMIRAND as : “President of the Regency Council”. and “Guardian of the Templar Faith”.Like any Grand Cross Officer / Grand Collar Officer, he was elected and appointed for life.
Prof. Dr. Nicolas Haimovici HASTIER is a remarkable character : He possesses 5 nationalities: Frenchman, German, Italian, American and Romanian… During his richly filled life he has lived in America, Peru, South Africa, Scotland, Portugal, Germany, France and Italy. He was married to a German Baroness and currently resides in Nice, France (on the French Riviera) as well as in San Remo, Italy.
Prof. Dr. Nicolas Haimovici Hastier was an internationally renowned and distinguished physician and surgeon, with more than 200 published scientific articles in pre-reviewed medical journals to his name.
He was Professor / Doctor of Medicine and taught at several universities in France and taught at New York Medical College (Paramus, New Jersey) in the United States for 12 years.
For many years he served as AMBASSADOR for the UNITED NATIONS, and was, for several years, employed by the US Army. He held the Grade of GENERAL ***.
He was district director of Rotary of France, and as an Officer he was in charge of many other humanitarian organizations.
Nicolas is also a brilliant author and in 2001 he wrote the book : “The Rule of The Order of the Knights Templar” . It took him about 15 years to write this book and the work is widely considered a masterpiece.

In 2019 he published one of his known works : “HISTOIRE, GÉOPOLITIQUE ET FRANC-MACONNERIE. LIBERTÉ VERSUS FORME D’ETAT“, a work that now serves as standard literature among all Masons in the world.

After the passing away, in 1993, of the 50th Grand Master:
H.E. Mgr. Chev. Fra. Georges LAMIRAND (FR), the Regency Council organized International Elections to appoint a new Grand Master.
In 1994, the Belgian H.E. Mgr. Chev. Fra. VAN DER STOCK was legitimately elected the 51st Grand Master and directed the International Order: OSMTJ. He ruled until 2001.
His profound knowledge and skills have left their mark in the development of The Order into what it is today.
In 2001, it was agreed internationally to entrust the International Leadership of The Order exclusively to The Regency Council, headed by The Regent : Prof. Dr. Nicolas HAIMOVICI HASTIER, MD, Ph.D.
Due to illness, he had to relinquish Leadership. He ruled from 2001 until 2022.
